Follow these methods to make natural rosewater at home:
Fresh Petal Rosewater
What you need:
One cup of fresh organic, pesticide-free roses
Distilled Water
1 tsp Vodka/Alcohol as a preservative (optional)
Spray bottle/glass jar for storage
What to do:
Remove all the petals from the roses and place in a saucepan.
Add enough water to cover all the petals and make sure all the petals are soaked. Don’t add too much water, or your rose water will be diluted and less fragrant.
Cover the pot with a lid and let the rose petals simmer on low heat for 20 minutes.
You’ll notice that the rose petals have released all the color and turned pale.
Strain the liquid and remove all petals.
Add the vodka/alcohol in the rosewater.
Store it in the fridge for up to a week without preservative. If a preservative is added, it will last a little longer.
Essential Oil Based Rosewater
What you need:
10-12 drops of pure rose essential oil
One cup distilled water
Spray bottle for storage
1 tsp Vodka/Alcohol for dilution/preservation (optional)
What to do:
First of all, dilute the rose essential oil in a teaspoon of vodka. This is important because essential oils don’t combine with water and it will just float on top of the water.
Fill the spray bottle with distilled water. Add the diluted rose essential oil. Put the lid and shake well until well combined.
Your essential oil based rose water is ready to use.
